What do I do if I receive files compressed with zip or Stuffit?
No problem. icWord easily opens zip and Stuffit files.

My Mac can't open the icWord application that I downloaded from this site.
You need to use the Freeware application "Stuffit Expander" version 5.X available at Aladdin System's website

Is icWord 100% WYSIWYG?
Almost. Columns are displayed one after the other. Graphics are all treated as inline graphics (there are no fixed place graphics). WordArt text is presented, but the art form isn't retained. Most drawings are presented; some freeform drawings are not.

Where are my footnotes?
You can see the text of a footnote by pointing at it. The text will appear in a bubble.

How do I export from icWord into other applications?
Once a document has been opened in icWord, use one of the 'Copy' commands in the Edit menu, and then paste into other applications. Or, you can select part of the document and then use the familiar "drag and drop" method.

How do I adjust the fonts?
icWord automatically matches the original fonts to the fonts installed on your Mac. If you'd like to override the automatic font matching, you can build your own substitution table by choosing 'preferences' in the Edit menu.

How do I make icWord the default application for '.doc' files?
Prior to System 8.5: Open the 'PC Exchange' control panel, and click on the 'Add' button. In the 'Add Mapping' dialog box, add the extension 'doc' and select icWord in the 'Map to' list.
System 8.5 and above: Open the 'File Exchange' control panel, and click on the 'PC Exchange' tab. Clicking 'add' brings up the 'Add Mapping' dialogue box. In the 'Add Mapping' window, add the extension 'doc' and select icWord in the 'Map to' list.
Eudora: Hold down the Option key while double-clicking on the attachment. Select icWord at the prompt.
Netscape: Select 'Preferences' in the Edit menu. Select Navigator, and then Applications. Click the 'New' button. Enter the description 'Microsoft Word document.' For MIME type, enter 'application/msword.' For suffixes, enter the file extension 'doc.' To select an application to use, click the Application button (under 'Handled by'), click 'Choose,' and select icWord.
Outlook Express: Select 'Preferences' from the 'Edit' menu. Under 'Receiving Files', select 'File Helpers.' Click Add. Enter the description of the files, 'Microsoft Word Document.' Enter the file extension, 'doc.' Enter the MIME type 'application/msword.' Under 'File type' enter 'WDBN.' Enter '1px$' in the file creator box. Under 'Handling,' select 'view with application,' and click 'browse' to select icWord

Does icWord support other languages?
icWord works in English and all Western European languages. We're developing versions that support double-byte languages (Far East) and Eastern European languages. We welcome users from other countries who would like to beta test upcoming language releases.

icWord doesn't open my MS Word file. What should I do?
It is possible that icWord needs more memory, so try allocating more memory to the program. If this doesn't work, send the original Word file to support@icword.com. We will try to get that file opened for you!

What new features will be available in future releases?
New features are being developed in response to user requests. Tell us what you'd like us to include! Email us at features@icWord.com
